Summer camp comes to an end 

Villa Park Recreation's summer campers had a season ending picnic on August 18. The Camp staff attached and the event was held outdoors on the playground at the Iowa Community Center. 47 campers enjoyed hot dogs, chips and an ice cream treat from the Recreation Department's soft serve ice cream machine. A water-balloon toss ended the evening and campers received their camp yearbook. 

preschool to start in a couple weeks 

Preschool staff were in the Iowa Community Center for the first time since mid-Ma. Preschool for 3s and 4s begins with orientation on September 8 followed by the first day of classes on September 13. There are a few openings for the 3s which meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays. However, the 4s that meet Monday, Wednesday and Friday are full with a short waiting list. If enough preschoolers are waitlisted, another class will open on the same days in the afternoon. 

Highridge Ball Field

Staff continue making improvements to the Highridge field, new infield mix is being added to the field!  Use of the field, weather, and other factors cause the field to settle and loose material over time, new material is added to help provide better playability and proper grade to the playing surface as well as allow for proper drainage.

New park locations for soccer

Fall soccer will be held at new Park locations this fall.  Locations include the Iowa Community Center, Jefferson Park (east of the pool), Westmore Park and Twin Lakes Park. Parks staff will begin preparations in the coming weeks for use of these fields starting on August 23.

Village Hall- improvements to the finance department 

Parks staff completed improvements to the finance office in Village Hall prior to the new Assistant Village Manager starting. Work included demo of a wall and existing door, new framing, insulation, drywall, electrical improvements, cleaning, patching, painting, trim work, flooring, base, new fan, blinds, a new door was installed with hardware and the office furniture was moved back into the office. A new entry door into the finance area is planned to be installed in a few weeks.

new bike racks to be installed 

Through a Grant obtained by Public Works, Parks will be installing 30 new bike racks in the Village this fall. Locations for these bike racks include Twin Lakes Park, Metra, Franklin Park, the Great Western Trail, the Illinois Prairie Path, Villa Ave., Cortesi Memorial Park, Willowbrook Park, Lufkin Park and the Village Hall and Public Works facilities.


Villa Park’s community gardens were sold out for 2021!  The gardens continue to get great use and increase in popularity.  Harvest time for the gardens is to be done by October 31, Parks asks that all items are removed and garden areas are cleaned out for the season. Once the harvest is completed Parks staff will till and amend the soil to prepare it for 2022.


Cortesi memorial park- park improvments 

The Parks Department has completed improvements to Cortesi Memorial Park. These improvements include cleaning and washing of the depot building, stage area and park amenities. The Depot building and stage were scraped, sanded, caulked and painted. Park amenities and fixtures such as drinking fountains, light poles, electrical boxes and fire hydrants were also scraped, sanded and painted. Following this work, new landscaping was installed around the Depot building to replace dead plants and add to existing beds.

villa park mariners 

The Villa Park Mariners Swim Team just completed the 2021 swim season. The year, there were six (6) swim meets that were all held virtually.  The Mariners swam at Jefferson Pool, and the competition swam at their home pool. Each of the meets had three competing teams. Times for each of the events were recorded and submitted to the DuPage Swim and Dive Conference. The Mariners came in 1st place at 4 of the 6 meets!  Congratulations to all 113 swimmers that participated!

thursday concerts at  cortesi memorial park 

The four Thursdays in August will feature outstanding music, great food and libations to wet your whistle. Concerts begin at 6:30 pm but the concession stand opens at 6:00. Cortesi Veterans Memorial Park is located at 318 E. Kenilworth near the Villa Avenue Business District.
