Adopt-A-Hydrant Program

The 2016 Adopt-A-Hydrant Program Opens on May 1, 2016!
Please note that due to the change in paint supplies from Public Works to the Fire Dept. paint kits will be issued later in May.

Adoption Fees

  • $25   Family
  • $35   Organizations / Groups
  • $50   Businesses
  • $100  Major Corporations

Adoption Rules

  • Hydrants will be readopted every two years. To keep your hydrant for another two years, you must
    pay to readopt it.
  • You must keep your hydrant in good condition, touching up the paint if needed, and free of snow.
  • If rules are not followed, your hydrant will be painted over and you will lose your adoption rights.
  • The Village will not refund the adoption fee in cases of not adhering to the rules of the program.

Program Details

  • The Village will supply a paint kit with everything you will need to paint your adopted hydrant.
  • If a hydrant barrel is colored primarily white or camouflage, a contrasting color must be used on the
    hydrant bonnet (top).
  • No black paint is to be used on the hydrant bonnet.
  • Black paint used on discharge ports is limited to the tip or operating nuts only.
  • No gluing or attaching items to hydrants.
  • All words are to be in English only.


Re-Adoption Information


  • Past adopters are being contacted to see if they want to keep their hydrant. Contact the Fire Dept. to see if a painted hydrant is available for adoption.
  • See above fees for re-adopting your hydrant.
  • Checks or cash can be dropped off at the Villa Park Fire Dept., 1440 S. Ardmore Ave. in Villa Park or mailed to 20 S. Ardmore Ave., Villa Park IL 60181.
  • Please make checks payable to the Villa Park Fire Dept.
  • Indicate with your payment if you need a paint kit to touch up your hydrant.
