Villa Park VFW Post 2801 is seeking volunteers and donations to package Thanksgiving meal baskets as well as food to serve Naval Recruits on Thanksgiving day.
Every year, the VFW assembles baskets with all the food and fixings for a full Thanksgiving dinner for families who may otherwise not have one. In addition to the list of items the VFW is seeking below, volunteers are needed to assemble and distribute the baskets. The dinner baskets will be packaged from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Sunday Nov. 20, and delivered from 1 to 4 p.m. Monday, Nov. 21.
On Thanksgiving Day, the VFW also has a tradition of hosting approximately 100 recruits from Naval Station Great Lakes for a full Thanksgiving meal. In addition to the home-cooked meal, recruits are invited to call home and talk with family. The event relies on donations to supply dinner as well as volunteers to serve dinner. As of now, the VFW has more than enough volunteers for this event.
If you are interested in volunteering to stuff Thanksgiving Dinner baskets, please call Villa Park VFW Post 2801 at (630)834-8191 between 9 a.m. and noon Monday through Friday.
If you would like to make a donation, the VFW is looking for the following items:
Turkeys (10-12 pounds)
Hams - spiral sliced (6-8 pounds)
Canned gravy (brown or turkey)
Canned green beans or canned corn
Cash donations, which can be used to buy items on sale or in bulk
