As our first ever Police Social Worker, Mary "Luz" Lumbreras will provide case management and therapy to individuals, families, and youth. With 14 years of experience, Luz has serviced many from different cultures, ethnicities, and populations. Luz believes in empowering, educating, and encouraging the Human Spirit to become healthy and self-sufficient. Fascinated by “The holistic approach” is how Luz interprets those individuals that come through her door.
Lumbreras graduated with a master’s degree in social work from the Dominican University and earned a bachelor’s degree in applied behavioral science from National Louis University. With cultural sensitivity and diversity in mind, Luz will service community members and individuals.
Luz came to our community through a partnership between Tri-Town YMCA, Northeast DuPage Family and Youth Services, and the Villa Park Police Department thanks to a grant that was made possible through the DuPage Community Transformation Partnership, an initiative of the DuPage County Board and DuPage Foundation.
