Position Details
LATERAL ENTRY - POLICE OFFICER
VILLAGE OF VILLA PARK, ILLINOIS
The Village of Villa Park is located 30 miles west of Chicago with a population of 22,500 residents. The Police Department, established in 1915, is committed to providing the best service to those that live, work and visit Villa Park. The Police Department maintains excellent working relationships with other village departments, school districts and businesses. The mission of the men and women of the Villa Park Police Department is to safeguard freedom by preserving life and property, while protecting the constitutional rights of individuals and encouraging respect for the rule of law by its proper enforcement.
The Police Department is made up of 37 full-time and 6 part-time sworn officers along with 12 civilian positions. Department members respond to and initiate over 30,000 calls annually and participate in a variety of training programs throughout the year. Full-time officers work 12-hour permanent shifts.
Applicants must meet the following minimum requirements at the time of application:
• State of Illinois certification by the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board. (Part-time certification as a law enforcement officer does not meet this requirement.)
• United States Citizen
• Individuals must be at least 23 years old
• High School education or equivalent
• At least 2 years’ experience as a full time sworn, certified law enforcement officer with an Illinois law enforcement agency, within the last 3 years
• Valid Driver’s License
• Must agree to comply with all requirements of the position and have the ability to pass all examination and training requirements
• Ability to furnish upon request, a copy of the following:
o Professional licenses
o Training certificates
o Documents confirming work experience
o Birth certificate
o High school diploma or GED certificate
o Transcripts of higher learning
o Naval or military service board and discharge papers (DD-214)
o Any other employment related material as requested or required
Selection Process:
Each phase of the process is pass/fail and required to proceed to the next.
• Pre-screening application review by Police Department Command Staff
• Interview with the Board of Fire and Police Commissioners and Police Command Staff
• Character and background investigation and credit check
• Polygraph examination
• Post-offer examinations including, but not limited to: psychological evaluation, medical examination; vision screening; and drug use screening
• All appointments are subject to a probationary period
