On Wednesday, May 26, Frank Kolsky, Good Samaritan Hospital (GSH) EMS System Coordinator and Dr. Valerie Phillips, GSH Emergency Medical Specialist presented this award for excellence in pre-hospital care on February 4, 2021.
Congratulations to Villa Park Fire Dept crew: FF/PM's Jake Furtak, Kelli Kasperski, Jeff Sparger, Todd Gutzmer, Andy Fillipp and Lt. Ken Charapata for being the recipients of the Good Samaritan Hospital Joseph R. Hartmann Award of Excellence/First Runner-Up Award.
The crews received this award for their excellence in pre-hospital care on February 4, 2021 for the patient in full cardiac arrest. Mrs. Vicari began CPR on her husband immediately, when crews took over and continued manual CPR, secured airway access, defibrillated, started the LUCAS automatic compression system along with IV drug therapy. The patient made a full recovery due to the exceptional advanced life support skills performed by the VPFD paramedics. The primary caregivers for the patient, Mario Vicari, were Jeff Sparger and Jake Furtak (ambulance crew)
