Trick or Treat Hours

Whether your costume's sweet, scary, or something in between, the Village of Villa Park wishes you a happy and safe Halloween! This year's official trick-or-treating hours take place on Tuesday, October 31, from 3-7 p.m. Residents can elect to pass out treats during this time.

The Villa Park Police Department and Fire Department's Station 82 will be open to trick-or-treaters as well. If you're lucky, you may even find the Villa Park Fire Department's trucks rolling through the Village to hand out candy.

Homecoming Parade

On Friday, September 29, Ardmore Avenue was home to Willowbrook High School's Homecoming Parade. For just shy of an hour, floats decorated by student organizations and athletic teams traveled from the Ruggard Gazebo to the high school to kick off a "A Night on the Island"-themed weekend.

After the parade, Willowbrook's football team went on to win 45-22 against York.

Public Works Project Updates

As part of the 2017 Street Improvement Program, restoration of the parkways on Adams St., Grant Ave., and Cross St. has begun. Excavation of the pavement on Washington St. (east of IL Rte 83) has also begun. Construction in the Sugar Creek Golf Course Parking lot is expected to begin in the next few weeks.

Following improvements to underground sewer systems, curb installation is expected to begin soon on Biermann Ave.

Washington Green Infrastructure Improvements are ongoing and will continue as the Village coordinates relocation of utilities with Nicor.

Trick or Trot 5K

Looking for an excuse to go on a run in your Halloween costume? The Villa Park Junior Women's Club is hosting its annual Trick or Trot on Saturday, October 28, at the Ruggard Gazebo. This event consists of a 5k run/walk and a 1k "Little Devil Dash" for kids.

For those participating in the 5k, registration fees cost $35 online and $40 on race day. The kids' run costs $12. Visit the Villa Park Junior Women's Club website to sign up. All proceeds from this event will benefit Villa Park community organizations and families in need.

Pumpkin Smash

Bring your jack-o-lanterns to Village Hall's parking lot for a smashing — and environmentally friendly — good time.

In partnership with SCARCE (School and Community Assistance for Recycling and Composting Education) and the Environmental Concerns Commission, the Village of Villa Park is hosting its annual Pumpkin Smash on Saturday, November 4, from 9 a.m. to noon.

Last year, Pumpkin Smash events across the state of Illinois collected 9.31 tons of pumpkins. These jack-o-lantern remains are used for composting, which reduces waste and replenishes the nutrients in our soil.

Fire Prevention Open House

To celebrate Fire Prevention Week, the Villa Park Fire Department is hosting its Annual Fire Prevention Week Open House on Saturday, October 14, at Fire Station 81 (1440 S. Ardmore Ave.).

With fire safety puppet shows, a live fire demonstration, raffles, and a chance to meet Sparky the Fire Dog, this Open House is sure to be a blast for the whole family.

Also, thanks to a patron of Villa Park Public Library entering and winning  a contest by Penguin Random House, the library will be handing out free ice cream bars to the first 250 people who attend the Open House.

Daylight Savings Time

In just a few weeks, it'll be time to "fall back."

Daylight Savings Time ends at 2 a.m. on Sunday, November 5.

Don't forget to change your clocks, plan accordingly, and enjoy that extra hour in your day!

Yard Waste Pick-Up

The autumn foliage is beautiful, but what to do with all those fallen leaves? Starting October 16, residents will be allowed to dispose of an unlimited number of Kraft paper bags of leaves without affixing yellow yard waste disposal stickers. Free collection runs from mid-October to December 1st. Eligible yard waste includes brush and leaves. Rocks, sod, bales of hay, and landscape timbers should not be placed in cans or bags--these items require a special pick up service.

For additional information on how hazardous or special wastes can be properly and safely handled please visit DuPage County's website for updated information on collection events, disposal, and recycling. Please direct questions about the service, collection procedures, what will or will not be collected under the program to the Public Works Department at 630-469-5005.

Please remember that old electronics cannot go out to the curb as part of regular garbage pickup.
