Alarm Permits RequiredIf you have a residential or business burglar alarm for your property, a permit is required to be on file with the police department! Permits are required in order to help the police department make contact with owners or keyholders in the event of an activation. Having accurate information on file will also help the police department and owners work together to reduce the amount of false alarm activations. In 2017, the police department responded to over 750 false alarm activations. Responding to false alarm activations can pose an inherent danger and may take officers away from other emergency calls or duties. There are no fees associated with alarm permits; however, fines will be assessed to owners of alarms systems that do not have a permit on file with the police department as well as those that have multiple false activations during a calendar year. Alarm user permits may be downloaded from the village website.

Prevent Frozen Pipes January brought us some seriously freezing temperatures, but as we all know... the cold isn't over yet.
Preparing your water pipes for the freezing cold can prevent frozen or burst pipes. These tips from the American Red Cross will help protect your home:
- Keep garage doors closed if there are water supply lines in the garage.
- Open kitchen and bathroom cabinet doors to allow warmer air to circulate around the plumbing.
- Let water drip from the faucet served by exposed pipes. Even a trickle will help prevent freezing.
- Keep thermostat set to the same temperature day and night.
- If you are going to be away from home, keep thermostat set at a temp no lower than 55 degrees.
- Consider installing specific items made to insulate water pipes like a "pipe sleeve" or UL-listed "heat tape". Newspaper also provides some degree of insulation and protection to exposed pipes - even 1/4 inch of newspaper can make a huge difference!
