Rain Barrel Reimbursement Program Looking for an eco-friendly alternative to watering your garden this spring? Consider installing a rain barrel to collect rain water for use around your property.
The Village of Villa Park offers a Rain Barrel Reimbursement Program for residents. Here are some of the guidelines to be considered for reimbursement:
- Eligibility limited to single family homes in the village.
- Village utility account must be in good financial standing.
- Rain barrel must have at least a 50 gallon capacity, designed to capture rain from a gutter downspout, not require pumps and/or backflows, and are NOT homemade.
- Reimbursement will be limited to actual cost to purchase rain barrel, not to exceed $40.00 per fiscal year.

Villa Park PD raises nearly $4,000 for Special Olympics Polar PlungeThe Villa Park Police Dept. has surpassed their Polar Plunge 2019 fundraising goal of $2,000 by raising nearly $3,800 to benefit Special Olympics Illinois. This goal also passes last year's total of $3,135. The Villa Park PD Polar Plunge team will be #freezinforareason on Saturday, March 2, in Oak Brook, IL, as they take a dip in cold water for the cause. Free Simple Recycling service available soon for Villa Park residentsSpring cleaning time is almost here! Looking for an easy way to donate things like clothing, accessories and home goods? We have partnered with Simple Recycling to offer our residents this free recycling service starting the week of May 6. Recycle without even leaving your home. First, fill the bag provided by Simple Recycling, then, put it out on the curb during your normal garbage day (away from your regular garbage) and Simply will pick it up! They will also leave a new bag in the place of your old bag. More information will be sent out to homes over the next few months! Items accepted: - Accessories (Jewelry, purses, hats, backpacks)
- Bedding (Blankets, pillows, sleeping bags)
- Clothing (Children's, Men's, Women's)
- Coats and Jackets
- Drapes/Curtains
- Linens
- Shoes
- Socks
- Silverware, Dishes, Pots/Pans
- Other textiles

Public Works water fountains save 2,000 water bottles Since the installation of the two new water fountains in our Public Works building in May 2018, nearly 2,000 plastic water bottles have been saved from potentially ending up in landfills. Little steps make a big difference towards a positive environmental impact!

Upcoming Villa Park Public Library programs and activities The library has a variety of activities and programs for all ages over the next month, including the following (more program details and registration information can be found on the Villa Park Public Library for each of these programs):
- Read Across America Day Celebration: Sat, March 2 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Join us to celebrate Dr. Seuss' birthday and the joy of reading across America! All ages.
- Friends of the Library Cookbook Club: Thurs, March 7 7:30-8:45 p.m. The Depot @ Cortesi Park, 320 E. Kenilworth Ave. Take home the cookbook of the month and explore the recipes at your own pace. Then, prepare your favorite recipe from the cookbook to share with the group, try other dishes, and participate in a lively discussion led by Ingrid and Erin.
- Movie Poster Matching Event: Sat, March 16, 9:00 a.m.-4:15 p.m. REEL fun for all movie maniacs. Visit the library to view a large array of movie posters from pop culture films (current and upcoming) in the lobby. If you wish to test your skill of observation, you may match several descriptions with the corresponding posters displayed (correctly) for your chance to win a prize.
- Crafty Creations with Gilda: Wed, March 20, 6:30-8:30 p.m. Join Gilda and learn how to make a crafty creation. This porject is a ceramic bunny planter. Please note: this porgram will be held at the Iowa Community Center, located at 338 N. Iowa.

Spring Sweep volunteers needed The Environmental Concerns and Community Pride Commissions have teamed up to bring Villa Park residents the brand new, free Spring Sweep recycling and shredding event on May 18.
More information is to come over the next several weeks, but for now, we are in need of volunteers! If you are interested in volunteering for our Spring Sweep, email pride@invillapark.com.
